BIG DOLLARS FOR THE BIG LEAGUERS
This article was originally printed in the February / March 2001 issue of Tracking The Industry. . .
What's your game plan? Do you buy up/breed up with renowned genetics? Do you mix and match your own farm lines? Or do you hope a lot, plan a little, but really count on hunting your bucks? Big league dollars are paid to the big league players and, while we're obviously not all such players, the figures are fantastic, something to strive towards, and higher than ever! Here are just some of the recent North American top-sellers (in no way a complete listing), compiled from private sales, farm auctions and the Antlers International auction.
ALL FIGURES GIVEN IN U.S. DOLLARS.
Males:
Jack the Ripper (4 yr)
$250 000.00
James Earl Jones Pete (3yr) $95 000.00
Redoy Hightops (3 yr)
$56 000.00
Redoy Dan (4 yr) $45 000.00
Redoy Ron (5 yr) $22 000.00
#97
orange (son of Redoy Bill) (1 yr) $20 000.00
#55 orange (son of Gorilla) (3
yr) $13 000.00
#88 orange (son of Redoy Ron) (1 yr) $10 000.00
Antlers International Sale
Results:
Doe fawns: $750 - $12,000.00
Buck Fawns: $900
- $15,750.00
Does: $1,500 - $37,500.00
These are
truly astounding, record setting sales! While containing quite a range, each
category included a surprisingly high percentage of the upper range sales.
200+" genetics on both sides and solid DNA proof were essential in raising
sales from the lower range. Multiple 200+" bucks on farm also factored heavily
into prices paid.
Thank you to one of my sources, John Kerkvliet of Canadian Whitetail Genetics (former home of Jack the Ripper), one of our very own Canadian "Big Leaguers." Congratulations on playing a great game!
