Life is an Adventure!

The Deer Tracking family has always loved and lived life like it is an adventure. As our boys have grown and ventured off on their own adventures, it really is their love of the wilderness life that keeps drawing them home. We believe in living life together and so our family has embarked on some new adventures and we'd like to invite you to join us.

Deer Tracking Magazine- Our first family project begun over 19 years ago in order to provide an affordable resource and networking tool for the deer farming industry. At very early ages, the boys all became copy-editors...which has helped them throughout their school years.

Bear Essential Life Magazine (BE Life)- This new magazine addition stems from inquires regarding our simpler, off grid way or life. As part of the TV reality series Sons of Winter, many people were intrigued by the way of life they saw, so as a family, we saw a way to use a magazine to teach and lead others toward a life of adventure.

Trapping life- Our life for many years continues to be based for the winter months on our northern trapline. We are just beginning to be able to offer some select "trapline adventures" for those who love the wilderness and want to be part of it even for a short time.

Sons Of Winter- Discovery Channel reality TV series produced by Scott Gurney (producer of Duck Dynasty), showing in 2015. Scott located us through the 'about us' sections of our websites and contacted us to see if we would be interested in participating in a show about our way of life. Initially we said we were not interested, but after praying it through as a family we decided to walk it out in faith to see where God might lead. Our goal was to help create some good, clean family entertainment with a basis of our Faith in God.

Black Bear and now, Whitetail Deer outfitting- in the wilds of Saskatchewan- "Huntin' with the Barks Boys has become a term coined by friends and fellow deer farmers. Dale and Shane (along with Kole when he is not working on finishing his highschool), are very excited to be able to have a job right at home and virtually on their doorstep. Now you can join them on some incredible hunting adventures in Saskatchewan. Some even up on our trapline in the northern boreal forest.

Contact us if we can help you find a custom adventure for you! Check out the Buttons for more information.

Summer 2014 issue complete!

So, we have just completed the Summer 2014 issue of Deer Tracking. So blessed to have such an amazing designer to work with. We love this cover designed by Darren Russell, using the only picture that was available of Junkyard. Even with the poor resolution, Darren created a masterpiece. We'd also like to thank Doc Greg Gist of Gist Kinsman Ranch for purchasing this front cover as a donation to NADeFA. We are stronger when we stand together!

So enjoy this summer issue. Read carefully, Randy has dropped a few "intense" quotes that I just love!  We also are thankful to be able to reprint a blog from Renee Robinson called "A Letter to My Boys" (www.renee-robinson.com ) which is a real thought provoker regarding our time, relationships, family and technology. Please take the time to read and let it touch your heart! After a few weeks siitting in front of a computer working on this issue, it is time to go now and check in with my family...and turn off this computer for awhile! Have a great summer!

Deer Tracking, Health Issues & a Faithful God

News Flash! I am typing this from my trapline computer. My boys all surprised me for my Birthday last Monday and showed up with presents and balloons before I headed to the hospital that morning (by the way-thanks for ALL the Birthday wishes!). They were not there to bring me home, just spend the day with me. But we have gotten word that mom is doing (relatively) better and is able to handle re-hab for speech and cognition help for a week or two at City Hospital in Saskatoon.

As she can pretty much care for herself and will still be under the care of hospital staff, I decided to head home for a week or so to help Randy work on Deer Tracking (our magazine). Mom will be allowed day passes and possibly even weekend passes, hopefully gets a private or semi private room so she can sleep and recover some more. As I get work done here, I will be able to go back and help her at home in a week or so.

Thank you ALL for your prayers. I am praising the Lord as I recognize that all the little miracles are adding up to bring my mom home. She still has a great deal of trouble communicating-swaps words, makes up a few...she still has trouble naming many objects and is working on re-learning my name. But God is good.

Viral encephalitis is rare and has such a wide variety of complications (seizures to coma to death), but I am so thankful still that my mom is physically unchanged, Still praying for complete healing for my mom body soul and spirit and continued healing rest...Thank you Lord for bringing me home. Please refresh me so I can return to my mom when I am needed and may this magazine flow well and may people be blessed through it. Amen!

Moose hunt 2012

Here's a video I (Dale) made using footage I took during Moose season this year. This is Shane's first moose hunt. The actual moose hunt took a week, not 1 minute, lol. The bull was a giant fighter, who'd lost one of his antlers in a fight. As near as we can tell, he would have been 50+ inches wide, had he had both antlers. The soundtrack is a clip from As I Lay Dying's song "Upside Down Kingdom".
